Contax T
-
Released in 2001 as the successor to the hugely successful Contax T2, the T3 took the luxury compact concept and made it smaller, faster and more refined. It introduced a newly developed Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 35mm f/2.8 lens in place of the T2’s 38mm, improved close focusing from 0.7m to 0.35m, increased the top shutter speed from 1/500s to 1/1200s, and reduced the body size and weight by more than 20%.
What makes the T3 so desirable today is how much photographic quality it packs into such a small camera. The 35mm Sonnar is sharp, contrasty and beautifully suited to portraits, travel, street and everyday photography, while aperture priority, exposure compensation and manual focus give you more control than a typical point-and-shoot. It is discreet enough to carry everywhere, but capable enough to use seriously — exactly the kind of camera that encourages you to shoot more.
